Un Siècle de Cinéma

The last project of Tay Garnett's life was a textbook on film-directing.  When John Ford died, Tay was frustrated that he hadn't taken advantage of Ford's personal wisdom on the craft of motion picture directing and promised himself not to allow other master directors slip away without unlocking the secrets of their artistry.  It was in that spirit that he wrote a questionnaire on all the aspects of what it takes to make a motion picture.  He submitted his questionnaire to all the greatest living directors of that day.  Forty-two of them answered and Un Siècle de Cinéma was published in France in 1980.
